News Brief: Voting Rights Granted to Palestinian Authority

The General Assembly opened with an appeal for voting rights proposed by the delegate of the Palestinian Authority, which was granted by a majority vote from the floor.

The delegate of the Palestinian Authority cited that the Palestinian people asked to be "recognized as equal human beings." The delegate also touched on the fact that numerous NGOs, such as Amnesty International, were granted voting rights, yet did not represent a government body.

An against speech was given by the delegate of Israel, which cited recent violence in Palestine as a reminder of the country's inability to represent the entirety of the people.

The Palestinian Authority was granted voting rights with 59% approval from the floor.
